Recently, we took an all-day field trip to Masonboro Island. Masonboro Island is an uninhabited barrier island on the outer banks of North Carolina. The weather was a little chilly that day but it didn't rain so we were blessed!
The students in our homeschool group got to learn about blue crabs and their feeding habits and even got to try catching them on baited lines. The crabs were too cold and not feeling very adventurous, so they stayed just out of reach.
After the crabbing station, we walked to the marsh. Another instructor was there to tell us all about vegetation, decomposition and the animals that live in the marsh. I was so glad neither of my girls fell in that wonderful, nutrient-rich soil! It might be great for plants, but I'm sure it's not great for fabrics.
