Renaissance Fest

On a beautiful September day, we visited the Renaissance Festival in Holly, Michigan.  We're studying the Medieval time period this year so the Renaissance Fest gave us a preview of what's to come next year.

We saw all kinds of amazing things!
One favorite thing was the pickle peddler who yelled, "PICK---LES" and cracked us up.  No photo of him, unfortunately.  We did buy a pickle from him for two dollars.  It was a huge pickle!

I'm not sure how this tree-hedge guy fits in with the Renaissance time period...

This regal and powerful queen may have caught a whiff of cabbage cooking and been sucking on lemons just before this photo was taken.  The jousting competition was apparently performed for her amusement, but she didn't look very amused.  Thankfully, she let the rest of us watch, too.

Half the audience cheered for the Red Knight and half cheered for the Green Knight.  Our side of the stadium was for the Green Knight, and he WON!  :-)  Must have been due to our cheering!

A mermaid was presumably diving under the muddy water...

Here's her friend...

The girls took a camel ride!
Look at those smiles!  Where else can you ride a camel but at the Renaissance Festival?!?

Arm-powered swing, our last event of the day.  Super fun!
