We walked the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day, Sept. 2nd!
It was a chilly, windy morning but it was great and we are all glad we did it! Another fun Michigan memory! You can't tell from this photo, but the bridge is 5 miles long! That's a decent walk even when it's NOT cold and windy.
We may have looked silly being all bundled up, but we were not too warm, that's for sure!
Some of the views were amazing! We started walking just at sunrise and as the light came through the clouds, the sky lit up with beautiful colors.
Here's a shot with one tower superimposed on the other. The distance between the towers is 3,800 feet.

Pictured here is one of the many freighters to pass through the Straits of Mackinac, the narrow strip of water that separates lower and upper Michigan. Steve's grandpa actually worked on some of these freighters for years.
I heard one couple say that they've participated in the Bridge Walk for the past 28 years. I don't think we're going to try to beat their record, but maybe we will do the bridge walk again someday.
