We just returned from our annual waterpark vacation! This is the fourth year in a row that we've taken a special trip in January, but our first visit to Kalahari. It's one of the perks of homeschooling - being able to vacation when other kids are back in school. Granted, we often have to make up for these special days when other kids are out of school but it's worth it!
One of the girls' favorite parts of the park was the wave pool! They are on the far left side in this video.
Here's Steve on the Flow Rider. This was his 4th or 5th time riding, and his first attempt at getting up on his knees. He did really well! Lots of people couldn't stay on the board at all!
The Cheetah Race was fun until I gulped down a huge amount of water on my last time down the slide. I'm not sure what happened, but it was a doozy.
Something we did differently this year was to pack a lot of our own food. We saved a significant amount of money by eating in the hotel room rather than in the restaurants. And I dare say, the food was better, too!
One downside to going to the water park when other kids are in school... there are no lines. Yes, that can actually be a downside. For the kids, that's GREAT! No lines means no waiting. For the parents, it's almost like a punishment... no lines means no BREAKS going up those seemingly endless steps. There are no chances to stop and rest while we wait for people in front of us to take their turn. See how empty the park is? See how many steps there are?!?
Note to parents: pack Advil and drink coffee. When the kids in the family are thin and fit, it's hard to keep up with them!
Here's one of the more daring rides. Steve and Madeline are on the raft in this video but all four of us did ride it together. Lydia and I made sure Steve and Madeline tested it before we tried it, though. We affectionately called this the Toilet Bowl but the real name is the Swahili Swirl.
All in all, it was a great family fun time!
