For the last day of school this year, we took a field trip, but honestly it was just like any other day.
After all, we homeschool, which means we always wear prairie dresses and drink water from a pump.
Here we are with our friends before entering the Stanley School in Crossroads Village. Notice the lunch pails. Inside are apples, pecans, blueberries and bread.
waiting to enter the school - girls on one side (of course), boys on the other
The only heat source in the room. Better hope you get a seat next to this during a Michigan winter!
We only have girls in our family, but if we did have boys, we certainly would not let the boys and girls do the same math!
A reading textbook just like the ones we used for reading instruction
I'm sure it was nice for the girls to have a different teacher for the day. Her clothes were exactly like what I wear at home, though, which lent a level of familiarity. Homeschoolers are very resistant to change, as everyone knows.
Water pump and outhouse, similar to ours at home
Lydia demonstrating the dunce cap, a punishment for not knowing your lessons, although Lydia definitely isn't a dunce!
Real metal cups (from our camping supplies)
Recess time - a group game of tossing the ball over the roof of the outhouse to the students waiting on the other side. The children had to call out, "Auntie I Over" before tossing the ball.
The girls really enjoyed their "school" day! Interesting comment from Lydia --- she said she thought it would be very annoying to be public-schooled because the teacher repeated everything three times. :-) Benefits and drawbacks to every situation.
