This winter and spring, Madeline had two special theatrical events!
In January, she finally got to see her own original play come to production. The play was called "The Gift of the Nile" and Madeline worked very hard on it. It was performed by a small group of students through a group called Flying Pig Theater Academy. The teacher of her theater class did make a few minor changes to it, but overall it was Madeline's work and talent. Here she is with a copy of her script, wearing her "Unsocialized Homeschooler" sweatshirt.

Madeline, a new young playwright who wrote "The Gift of the Nile,"
produced this week by Soaring on Stage students. Madeline gives some advice to
young writers: "Everyone starts off by having a wonderful imagination, so
don’t lose it. Imagine like crazy! Write it all down and don’t stop doing that.
You don’t have to show them to anybody, if you don’t want to. Just write for
yourself and have lots of fun! You have the freedom!” We are very impressed
with her, and hope to see more scripts from our students in the classes to
come!
Here are the girls after the performance: Madeline is dressed as one of the pharaoh's guards and Lydia is dressed as Alex, a girl who got transported back in time to Ancient Egypt. Madeline specifically asked the theater teacher if Lydia could have the lead role!
This was a very exciting event in our household and Grandpa B. even drove all the way from New York for the performance! Madeline and Lydia had several relatives there to support them and on the night of the play, we were surprised when Aunt Maryann from North Carolina showed up! We had no idea she was coming!
As if all this wasn't enough, a reporter from the Midland Daily News came to interview Madeline, stayed to watch the whole play, and even had photos taken for his article in the Accent section of the paper. Here is the article online.

In May, Madeline got to perform as the Cook in Puss in Boots at Delta College. She worked hard to improve her projection (being loud) and did a fantastic job with her lines and stage presence.

Before going on stage, the Great Ogre pretends to threaten Madeline, but it's very possible that in real life, Joe is more afraid of Madeline than the other way around.
Faithfully fulfilling one of her many duties, Madeline tastes the gooseberry punch before the Ogre does. She wants to make sure it isn't too sweet or too sour, lest she be scolded unmercifully.
The Ogre has determined that the gooseberry punch is both too sweet and too sour at the same time, and yells at the Cook to "get rid of it!"
That's Madeline in the top right corner! She had a blast being part of this play and plans to audition for "Without Stings" (Pinocchio) in September.
