Last week the girls and I got to see a real cotton field and an old cotton gin!
In a few weeks the field will be white with cotton.
Madeline says, "We had a great time at the Cotton House. It was so real. I really liked how some bugs made their homes in cotton but the farmers didn't like it that much. The bug was called the Boll Weevil. The cotton gin helped a lot of people by picking out the seeds from the cotton flower. Before, people had to pick it out all by hand and by hand, you could only get about a pound of cotton in a whole day. Eli Whitney must have been very rich."
Lydia says, "It seemed like a dragon fly was following us at the cotton field. Its wings were navy blue. We went into a another building that had a sharecropper's cabin in it. There was one section that was made before electric lights and another section that was made when there were electric lights. There was a different section of the building where there was a play area. In the play area there was one small section where children can have a puppet show and another section in the play area where there were buckets. All of the buckets were full of play food except for one. That bucket was used for little farm animals. It was fun!"
